After being injured playing football, I turned to Athletic Training.  This enabled me to stay with the team and help as best as I could.  It also meant learning from Ted Georgeff.  He taught health/athletic training at WYHS and was the Athletic Trainer for Capital University.  This meant that I and others learned the basics of athletic training during class and got to apply them on athletes at WYHS and sometimes at Capital University.  For my sophomore year, there were three of us (John Gillespie, myself and another, whose name I can't recall).  John tended to the Varsity teams, while I and the other trainer supported the Junior Varsity teams.  When John graduated, I assumed the role of senior trainer and worked with Pat McMillan on supplies while supporting all supports.  Fortunately, all of this hands-on experience persuaded me to make medicine a career after high school and I joined the Army to become an Orthopedic Surgical Technician and Paramedic after graduation.  The injury started the process but Ted put me on the path.
