Edward Young - Class Of 1965

Edward August Young, Jr. of Sterling, Virginia, died September 26, 2016, at Loudoun Hospital. Born June 12, 1947, in Louisville, Kentucky, he was the son of Edward August, Sr. and Mary Kathryn (Echols) Young. He married Janice Louise Vittore on July 17, 1976; she survives. Edward retired from the U.S. Government in 2011 after 38 years of service, including a four-year enlistment in the U.S. Air Force, with a tour in Vietnam. He was a member and active volunteer in the Baltimore & Ohio Railroad Historical Society for 38 years. He also was very active in Little League Baseball, dedicating 29 years of service to Lower Loudoun Little League in Sterling. Edward was especially active as a volunteer umpire; he was a life member of the Virginia State Tournament Umpire Association and of the Little League World Series Alumni International. After his retirement, Edward spent considerable time conducting historical research and writing about the Baltimore & Ohio Railroad. In addition to his wife, survivors include: son, Brendan Young, his wife, Beryl Ayn, and granddaughter, Brielle, of Lovettsville, Virginia; brother, Carl F. Young, his wife, Mary Ellen of Pataskala, Ohio; sister-in-law, Carolyn Vittore Dee and husband, Timothy Dee of North Grafton, Massachusetts. He is also survived by nephews, Taylor Dee and Michael Young; and niece, Elaine Young Petitjean. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister Mary Evelyn Young, and a granddaughter Isabella Rose. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions be made to the American Cancer Societywww.cancer.org. Please note that the contribution is being made in memory of Edward Young.
