Lon was a 1979 graduate of Whitehall-Yearling High School, where he was a member of the basketball and golf teams, student council, and served as a class officer. He graduated cum laude from Miami University in 1983, where he studied political science and was an active member of the Delta Tau Delta Fraternity. Finally, in 1986, he received his JD from The Ohio State University, allowing Lon to practice law for a number of years as a criminal attorney.
After marrying Toni Bailey, he settled in Upper Arlington where his two children, the joys of his life, Colin and Carly, were born and raised. Lon was marked by his love of golf, which was only heightened as he watched Colin develop the same passion as a teenager. Cheering his kids on at their sporting events, awards ceremonies, and graduations were some of the proudest moments of his life. He was overjoyed to be present at the weddings of both of his children as they started families of their own. Lon was an avid Ohio State Buckeye fan, an animated storyteller, and a doting Pawpaw to his granddaughter, Hadley.
Lon was preceded in death by his grandfather, Rollin Alonzo Allen; his grandmother, Ruth Alice Wilson Sims; and his father, Philip Foley Allen. Surviving him is his mother, Anita Sims Allen; his sister, Abbe True Allen; his son Philip Colin Allen (Mary); his daughter, Carly Hernandez (Cameron); and granddaughter Hadley Josephine Hernandez.
