In Memory

Kenny Hatfield - Class Of 1998

Kenneth Eugene Hatfield obituary, Columbus, OH

Kenneth “Kenny” Eugene Hatfield, age 45, passed away on July 8, 2026 in Columbus, Ohio at Grant Medical Center after a lifelong battle with kidney disease.

Kenny is survived by his father; children: Ethan Hatfield and Leianna Hatfield; uncles: Dwight Anderson and Michael Huff; sisters: LaShawn Capito (Chad), Danielle Jackson, and Acacia Leasure (Marc); nephews: JaeQuan Capito (Elizabeth), Braelyn Mosely, and Cameron Mosely; nieces: Morgan Jackson and Aaliyah Leasure; great-niece: Samra Capito; first cousins: Toni-Lynn Cannon, Yakeyna Jones (Robert), Aleisia Black, Tatiauna Anderson, Kasee Cannon (Andre Palmer), and Katee Barnes (James); and a host of other close family and friends.
He is preceded in death by his mother, maternal grandmother Karlene Hatfield-Edmondson; paternal grandmother: Gloria Anderson; uncles: Homer Anderson and Tony Cannon; and aunt: Robin Hatfield-Orallo.

Kenny was born in Columbus, Ohio on October 7, 1980 to Janet Hatfield and Ronald Jackson. Although he spent several years of his youth residing in Dallas, Texas, the majority of his childhood was spent in Columbus, where he was always the only boy surrounded by three sisters and all female first cousins, however, he gained lifelong relationships with “brothers from another mother”: Jermaine Neal, Curtis Davie, Daniel McDonald, and Timothy McDonald (d. 2025), who provided brotherly love and support to Kenny throughout all of the ups and downs of his life.  Kenny played football growing up and was part of the Mifflin Sharks little league team that won back-to-back championships.

He attended Whitehall-Yearling High School and later earned his GED in 1999 through Columbus City Schools Adult & Community Education (a.k.a. North Adult), but his greatest achievement was becoming a father. Kenny defied the odds that countless others with kidney disease have faced and he will be dearly missed by his family, friends, and all who knew him. Rest easy, Kenny, until we meet again.

Visitation will be Saturday, July 18, 2026 from 10 a.m. until time of funeral service at 12 p.m. at the O.R. WOODYARD CO. South Chapel, 1346 S. High St. in Columbus, OH.
