Obituary for Michael D Ferguson
The one good thing cancer did for Mike was it made him more Spiritual. I watched his faith grow. It helped him prepare for his next journey. There are loved ones waiting for him.
Mike was preceded in death by his parents, Earl and Mary Ferguson, brother Rob, in-laws Harley and Ruth Sweetman and nephew Josh Kendall. Mike will be deeply missed by his wife Mary (Sweetman) Ferguson and daughter Kelly Ferguson, brother John Ferguson, sister Cathy (Kevin) Blankenship, brother-in-law Jim (Beverly) Sweetman, sisters-in-law Kathy (Doug) Kendall, Gardy Sweetman and several nieces and nephews along with framily and many friends.
Mike earned his Bachelor Degree in Education from The Ohio State University and Master Degree in Sports Administration from Ashland University. He retired this year from Whitehall-Yearling High School where he was the Athletic Director for 13 years. An alum of Whitehall-Yearling High School, Mike graduated from his alma mater in 1974. During his tenure, he was widely recognized both at the state and local levels as an extraordinary leader.
In 2008, Mike was recognized by the Central Ohio Interscholastic Athletic Administrator Association and the Ohio Interscholastic Athletic Administrator Association as “Athletic Administrator of the Year.” The OIAAA inducted him into their Hall of Fame in 2014. He was just recently honored at Whitehall-Yearling with having the stadium field named after him. Mike was never at a loss for words. He made everyone laugh. His wit will be missed.
Thank you to the nurses and aides at The James 5th Floor Chemo. They were very comforting during his treatments. Thank you also to Hospice Home Care for taking good care of him.
