September 2008.  MARTIN Marty M. Martin, age 35, of Stoutsville, Ohio, Detective with the Franklin County Sheriff's Department passed away suddenly as a result of an automobile accident in the line of duty. He is survived by his loving wife, Jody Carrico Martin; 6 year old son, Kyle Martin (and his mother, Laura). Marty is also survived by his mother, Sharon Martin; father, James (Mary Ann) Martin; sisters and brothers-in-law, Kim and Rich Brown and Tina and Ron Wyant; nephews and niece, Jeremy, Aaron, Caitlyn and Reed; grandparents, Irvin and Audrey Swain; father-in-law and mother-in-law, George and Nancy Carrico; brother and sister-in-law, Kevin and Kosby Carrico; aunts, uncles, cousins, and the entire public safety community. He is preceded in death by grandparents Captain C.F. (died in the line of duty in 1964) and Elizabeth Martin. Also survived by Bul, his retired K-9 Unit and Charly his competition sport dog, and many Liberty Hoeve Kennel canines. Marty was a loving husband, father, son, friend and mentor. He was a certified instructor for the Ohio Peace Officer Training Commission Police Dog, National Certifying Agent for Drug Beat, and Schutzhund sport dog trainer. His love of dogs, training, and dedication to protecting the community was his passion. An avid outdoorsman, Marty enjoyed the simple life and self sufficiency on his family hobby farm. Marty is a 1991 graduate of Whitehall High School, European Professional soccer player; Columbus State Law Enforcement Degree; State Highway Patrol; President of Hondensport Ohio Dog Club; Co-owner of Liberty Hoeve Kennels; 10 years of service with Franklin County Sheriff Department where he received the 2006 Safe Driver Award and the Officer Appreciation Award, and in 2008 the Medal of Merit for endangering his life to save a victim's life. Public Visitation Wednesday 2-8 p.m. (family will be present at visitation from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m.) with FOP service at 8 p.m. at GRAUMLICH FUNERAL HOME, 1351 S. High Street. Funeral service Thursday 11 a.m. at World Harvest Church, 4595 Gender Road, Canal Winchester, OH. Father Leo Conley and Pastor Dave Rittger officiating. Graveside committal to follow at Franklin Hills Memory Gardens in Canal Winchester. In lieu of flowers contributions may directed to the Marty M.
