George Fredrick Mayer, 82, passed away on June 1, 2025, after a period of declining health due to Alzheimer’s disease. He was born on July 17, 1942, in Columbus, Ohio, the son of Erwin and Irene (Lyons) Mayer. George graduated from Whitehall-Yearling High School and retired in 2017 from Columbus International Airport.
George enjoyed fishing, restoring classic cars, and working as a DJ on cruises. He enjoyed playing cards with friends in the Whitehall Euchre Club. He was a member and former president of the Lions Club, and a member of Faith Lutheran Church in Whitehall.
He is survived by his wife of 41 years, Dorrie (Willson) Mayer; his brother, Robert Mayer of Illinois; sons, Noah (WYHS 2004) and Brent Mayer (WYHS 2014); daughters, Monica (George) Sidner of Texas, Pam Mayer (WYHS 1986), and Karen Siemans; grandchildren, Derek and Catherine; and great-grandchildren, Vera and Vinny.
A visitation for George will be held Monday, June 9, 2025, from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at Faith Lutheran Church, 730 Collingwood Ave, Columbus, OH 43213. A funeral service will occur Monday, June 9, 2025, from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM at the same location. A graveside service will follow at Eastlawn Cemetery, 1340 Woodland Ave, Columbus, OH 43219.
