Matthew Dildine - Class Of 1996

The Ohio State Highway Patrol is investigating a crash that killed a man and woman from Columbus on Thursday in Marion County.

Troopers said the crash happened around 4:10 p.m. on U.S. 23 just north of milepost 7 in Pleasant Township.

A  man was driving south on U.S. 23 when he lost control of the car. The vehicle went off the right side of the road, hit a tree, and flipped over in a ditch.

 

According to OSHP, there were two other passengers in the vehicle at the time of the crash. 26-year-old Melissa Dingess was ejected from the car and 42-year-old Matthew Dildine was trapped inside.

Dildine was pronounced dead at the scene by Coroner Dr. Mark Davis. Dingess was taken to Marion General Hospital where she later died. The driver of the vehicle was first taken to Marion General Hospital then transported to Grant Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries.

The driver and Dingess were not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash. 

The crash remains under investigation.

Matthew Elliot Dildine

March 19, 1978 — July 16, 2020

Matthew Elliot Dildine, age 42, passed away tragically on July 16, 2020. Matthew was born on March 19, 1978 in Columbus, OH to the late Norman and Linda Lou (Cox) Dildine. He graduated from high school, and continued his life. He leaves behind his siblings, his children, and several friends.
