David was born in Columbus, Ohio on September 28, 1954, to the late Robert and Virginia (James) Smith. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother-in-law, Ira Grayson.

David is survived by his children Angela (Kevin) Oliva, Rebecca (James) Lantto, Trey Alvoid, and Tyler (Catherine) Alvoid; grandchildren Paige, Aiden, Madison, and Ethan; siblings Debra Grayson, Daniel (Ann) Smith, and Douglas Smith.

David was a chef at Cornucopia Catering and was the owner/chef at Armandos II. He enjoyed sports of all kinds, especially cheering on his grandchildren in their events. He was a fan of the Cleveland Browns and Indians, The Ohio State Buckeyes, and in the past liked to bowl and golf.

The family will hold a memorial service in the fall at Faith Lutheran Church in Whitehall, where David was a member.
