Shih Liang (Tim) Lei - Class Of 1989

Shih Lei Obituary

Lei Shih Liang (Timothy) Lei, age 45, of Columbus, Ohio, left his earthly life on Saturday morning, November 7, 2015. Born on July 24, 1970 in Taipei, Taiwan, Tim immigrated to America in 1978 and became a U.S. citizen in 1990. A 1989 valedictorian graduate of Whitehall Yearling High School, Tim continued on to receive a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Computer Science graduating magna cum laude from The Ohio State University in 1994 followed by an Associate of Applied Science degree in Interactive Media from Columbus State Community College in 2011. He was employed by the State of Ohio Department of Health. Diagnosed with Stage 4 colon cancer in 2014, Tim fought bravely and was ever so hopeful throughout. He is survived by his loving yet heartbroken family: wife of 86 adventurous months, Ann Lei (nee Lee); son, John Jeremiah Lei; daughter, Maria Grace Lei; parents, Chung Li and Hui-Fen Lei; sisters, Gloria Hiatt (Timothy), Nancy Lei, Anne Tan (Heow Meng); brother, Frank Lei (Nina); niece, Joyce Tan; nephews, Steven Tan and Henry Lei; and many other cherished relatives and in-laws. Tim was an ambidextrous artist who moonlighted as a web administrator. For a soft-spoken man, he sang karaoke with abandon and had a surprising, trademarked sense of humor. He was the biggest dog lover who never owned a dog in his life. Truly a man of eclectic interests, he appreciated nature from the micro water bear to the Redwood tree; he enjoyed the mastery of Bach music yet also took time to dance to "The Wiggles" with his kids. Tim was an avid reader of many topics from epic trilogies to Christian apologetics. He loved him some Chick-fil-A, was a lifelong collector of Transformers, and had a heart for Snoopy, "Beauty and the Beast", the Buckeyes, and the Lakers. In his cancer journey, his avatar was "Batman" with cancer being his "Bane". Above all, he loved God. This beloved man ran the race set before him well and is now hanging out with his Savior for eternity; where, o death, is your sting now? A memorial service in Tim's honor will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, November 14, 2015, at the Columbus Chinese Christian Church. A burial among family and close friends will be held that morning at Kingwood Memorial Park in Lewis Center, Ohio. In lieu of flowers, contributions are welcomed to Wycliffe Bible Translators (Wycliffe.org); please denote "in memory of Tim Lei".
